Registration & Submission

Registration

All participants must register on the Appathon portal in order to be considered for the competition. Particpants under 13 years old must be registered by a parent, guardian, or teacher. If submitting as a team, each member of the team must register individually. Registration can take place at any time before the submission deadline.

Submission Requirements

To participate in the competition, you must have completed all of the following items by April 2, 2027 at 23:59 AOE (Anywhere on Earth):

  • Publish your app to the App Inventor Gallery or upload your app’s .aia file to Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.
  • Create a 2-3 minute video
  • Create a Powerpoint or Google Slides presentation
  • Each team member register on the Appathon portal
  • One team member (or parent/teacher) must submit the project

Please see below for detailed instructions about each item. Note that the submission form, registration form, and presentation must be in English. The video may be in any language, but must contain English closed captions or subtitles. 

App Upload

You have two options for uploading your app: 1) You can publish your app to the App Inventor Gallery, or 2) You can upload your app’s .aia file to Google Drive, Dropbox, etc. If your app uses an extension, you must use the second option because the Gallery does not allow extensions.

  • App Inventor Gallery: follow these instructions to publish your app to the Gallery
  • Shareable Link: from your app, click Projects > Export Selected Project to My Computer. This will download an .aia file to your computer. You will be asked to upload your .aia file to the Appathon portal when you submit.
Video

Create a 2-3 minute video that contains the following:

  • Description of the problem you chose to address related to one or more of the UN SDGs
  • How your app addresses the problem
  • Demonstration of your app’s features
  • Demonstration of someone from the target audience interacting with the app
  • English subtitles or closed captions

The video can be in any language, as long as it contains clear and readable English subtitles. Upload the video to a platform of your choice (YouTube, Google Drive, Vimeo, etc). You will be asked for a link to your video in the submission form on the Appathon portal. Be sure to make the video publicly accessible.

Presentation

Create a copy of our presentation template using the platform of your choice:

  • Canva Template (requires logging into a Canva account): click on “Use template for new design” to make a copy of the template
  • Google Slides Template (requires logging into a Google Account): click on “Make a copy” to make a copy of the template
  • Powerpoint Template (.pptx): follow these instructions to download the template (choose “Powerpoint” as the file type) and open the downloaded file in Powerpoint

Edit the presentation and enter information where it prompts you to. You will be asked for a link to your presentation in the submission form on the Appathon portal. Be sure to make the link publicly accessible. The entire presentation must be in English.

Registration

Every member of your team must register on the Appathon portal. Everyone must register by the final deadline (April 2, 2027). Any participants under 13 must be registered by their parent, guardian, or teacher. The registration must be filled out in English. 

Submission

One member of the team will submit your video, presentation, and link to your uploaded app on the Appathon portal. The submission must be filled out in English. That person will add team members to the submission by name and email.
